Want Decking In Your Garden? Take Inspiration From the SGD Awards

The winners of the Society of Garden Designers (SGD) Awards 2017 were recently announced and if you’re thinking of revamping your outdoor space this year then you may want to take inspiration from some of those who took home gongs.

Several of the winning gardens featured decking, offering some ideas on how to use it in unusual ways, as well as showing you how to incorporate it seamlessly into your outdoor space.

Both the winners in the medium residential garden category utilised decking in some form or another. In one, there was a decked area surrounding rectangular pools of water, while in the other, curved sections of decking and decked paths weaved their way across a larger pond.

In the large residential garden category, decking was also used to great effect around a pool area and to create a simple yet stunning seating area.

Of course, you don’t have to do anything so complicated in your own space – you can choose an area to be decked and keep it simple, with elegant planting and maybe some lawn in the rest of your garden.

Make sure you call in a professional for help with decking in Somerset if you don’t feel confident undertaking this kind of work on your own.

Last month, the Telegraph highlighted some of the top gardening trends to watch in 2018, which included the use of more organic fertilisers and a move towards natural pest control, rather than chemicals. Seaweed fertilisers and nematode worms are expected to grow in popularity among the UK’s gardeners, according to the newspaper.
